Hello: We the Dreamer
This is the sixth in a series of interviews I am doing with new and innovative companies in and around the Smart Lock, Security and Access Control industry. It's time they have a voice and we meet them. If there are any companies you'd like to see highlighted in the future, let me know. I plan to do this regularly. I am open to your feedback and appreciate the heads up. Thank you!
Recently there has been a good discussion on LinkedIn, IPVM, Stacey on IoT and other forums about the Physical Access Control, Smart Lock, and IoT industries breaking through the early adopter phase and catching its own flywheel. One area I believe our industry has a lot of work to do is around marketing. Not just in doing it but really doing it and doing it different than it is being done right now. Right now, if it is being done, we are so focused internally and way too focused on technical specs. And if we are being honest - its boring, with old messages, and broadly ineffective. What we need to do is appreciate the skill set, embrace it, bring in the talent, invest in it, and for the most part...get out of the way and let them do what they do best.
Which leads me to this Hello article. Please meet Bert Hart, owner of We the Dreamer. I first met and worked with Bert at Brivo Systems. He is an example of the talent our industry needs. He is creative, fun, a free thinker, effective, and understands our market. He does branding (he did mine), graphics (he did mine), animations, videos and a whole bunch more. His company tagline summarizes it best: "Inspiring everyone to follow their dreams and providing awesome design."
Here is my challenge to you: spend 5 minutes and talk with him. It will be the most productive 5 minutes you spend today.
I asked Bert the same 5 questions. Here is what he had to say.
As always, please let me know in the comments what you think.
1. Tell us a little about your business.
We the Dreamer is a graphic design company that provides great design and inspiration for individuals or companies chasing their dreams. We the Dreamer began in 2016 when I decided to follow my own dream to become the most versatile designer in the industry and make the design process enjoyable for both my clients and me- everyone needs a little bit of happiness! We the Dreamer value the relationships that we build with our customers, and we enjoy providing flexible services that meet each client’s needs and timeline. Our clients’ happiness is our number one priority- we believe that no one should have to compromise on their dreams, and no one should go without awesome graphic design.
2. What got you into the business?
Creating, learning, and meeting new people, that has always been the motivation for what I do. I love being able to create the thoughts and ideas of other people, and I think one of our purposes on this earth is to serve others. Seeing my clients happy and succeeding brings me joy.
3. What markets and verticals do you serve?
We work with marketing and sales teams worldwide and across industries to deliver graphic design and all around good vibes. Since we started, we’ve worked with Advertising & Marketing, Information/Data, Business Services, and Startup Industries. No matter the market, we love solving the unique challenges each industry brings!
4. What is one thing that you were surprised to find out about the industry?
It wasn’t really a surprise, but one thing that energizes me about working in the branding industry is how quickly trends change. These trends may appear new; however, to the trained eye, they are just old trends that have been updated and recycled. This fast-paced and changing environment is one of my favorite aspects of working in this field. I am always learning, and I enjoy helping my clients develop new and innovative designs, anything from postcards, white papers, business cards, or posters to eBooks, social media banners, animations, or silly butt gifs.
5. Where do you see your business in 5 years?
In 5 years, I plan on creating multiple eBooks to help other dreamers navigate the scary waters of chance when building their own businesses. I think it’s always better to learn from the journey of others. With that being said, I would also encourage dreamers to move forward and learn from the inevitable mistakes. I look forward to expanding my client base and creating new designs that are driven by data and psychology to invoke deeper meaning as well as positive subconscious responses. Apart from my business, I plan on send more good vibes throughout the world through my art like my life heroes: my dad, Mr. Rogers, my third-grade teacher Mr. Trust, and Chris Martin from Coldplay.
